What is the weather like? In the South, the most pleasant weather is from November to March. Really hot weather where it is dry and dusty lastsbetween March and May. Monsoon rains occur in most regions in the summer months between June and September. Coolest weather is from November to February.
What do I need to bring? What do I wear? You will need to bring walking shoes, sandals, towel, sunglasses, light clothing and for women bring clothing that covers your shoulders so as not to offend certain cultures. Showing your shoulder or low necklines can be considered as provocative to some. It is better to respect the culture rather than attract unnecessary problems. If you are travelling in the cooler months towards the hills you will need to bring with you warmer clothing.
Is India safe? One could also ask, how safe is it to travel in United States? India is like any other country. You should be careful about petty problems but no need to be paranoid. Keep your passport, cash and Credit Cards in a safe place with you all the time, so that pick-pockets can't access them But again, its not that all the places are full of pick-pockets. You need to be careful in crowded places like markets, temples etc. Women should not try to bring attention to themselves by walking around with revealing clothes. Respect the culture and you will recieve respect.
What language do they speak in India? India does not have a single official language. In South India where the 'School of Santhi' is situated they speak Malayam. Each state speaks its own official language. At the time the constitution came into force in India , English was used for most official purposes both at the federal level and in different states. The constitution envisaged the gradual phasing in of local languages, principally Hindi, to replace English over a fifteen-year period, but gave Parliament the power to, by law, provide for the continued use of English even afterwards. Accordingly, English still is used today, in combination with Hindi (at the central level and in some states) and other languages (at the state level).
